Christmas is really a pagan celebration and I don’t believe Christians should get involved in all the revelry, Christmas trees and financial splurging. What do you think?

The world has tried to cancel the celebration of Christmas for generations, and it is a sad thing when the Church ignores this special celebration. Little children, especially, are no longer exposed to beautiful Christmas carols with their clear message of the Gospel. Many do not even go to Sunday School and we can see them becoming increasingly secularised and embracing paganism. The true meaning of Christmas is far from pagan.

It is a celebration of the miracle coming of the Messiah into this world, to save lost humanity by personally paying the price for sin. What a magnificent reason to celebrate and what an incredible opportunity to share the Gospel!
While Christians can have no part in the worldly concept of celebrating Christmas, and should not be caught up in the senseless materialism, we should also not lose sight of the fact that this is a God-given opportunity to share the Truth of the Gospel.
The Word enjoins us to use every opportunity to share the Gospel (1 Corinthians 9:21). We are to “preach the Word in season and out of season.” 2 Tim 4:2. This is a good time to share the Good News via Christmas cards, for example, and to remind folk of the Greatest Gift of all. Let’s make full use of this time of celebration to “put Christ back into Christmas” while we still have the opportunity in South Africa.
