by Rutendo D. Choto

If all the wrongs

humanity ever entered into in life

could wash over us in throngs,

all at once about us rise

it would be like a flood,

a flash, freak, flood from which

not one of us ever could expect to emerge

we would be drowned, submerged.

                                                                That is, if not for Grace

                                                                If not for the theme that states;

                                                                Weakness is perfected in strength

Glory found despite inadequacy

to bury human deficiency,

Deficiency that sometimes cries:

                                                                Too loud

                                                                Too dark

                                                                Too quiet

                                                                Too pale

                                                                … Always “too” something

Caught in insecurity

Troubled by impurity

Battling addictions

Bound by ungodly actions

… Always fighting

                                                                At times lost in despair, thinking

                                                                “What am I worth?”

And trusted Grace in those moments is there

to uplift and show the oldest truth;

the Saviour who counted the cost to himself mere

fearless Christ who paid the full price by death

and to each His Grace teaches, with no hidden clause,

that I can smile, and smile wide, because

                                                                                The value of Him

                                                                                is the value of me.
