The Gift of Life
We all need words of encouragement from time to time and we must never underestimate the power of our words. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” This Christmas let’s give the gift of ‘life’ to others. Ask God to give you a word for the people with whom you come into contact. You never know, your words or the Scripture you quote might just be the answer to a prayer. We have been chosen to be vessels for Jesus and He uses us to reach those who are hurting. A few kind words may just be the “apples of gold in settings of silver” that the Bible speaks of. During these busy times, one often forgets to demonstrate love through our words. Sometimes just a lovely, broad smile can change a person’s day. A warm, genuine, targeted smile can be such a tremendous form of encouragement.
We also need to pray constantly for wisdom and read the Word of God regularly so that we may imprint the Scriptures into our hearts. “Out of the heart, the mouth speaks” Matt 12:34, so let’s make sure it is God’s Word that comes out of our mouths. So many people are lost, hurting and need help and we, as Christians, have the solution. Don’t hold back, become a blessing to others. Speak life! Ever wanted to make sure you are Hearing God’s Voice? Read our informative article (Pg 44) and discover just how the Lord speaks to us.
We also bring you a very important article Silent Heartache of Single Women (Pg.70). This is a serious problem facing many women in our society today. Let’s put our heads together, seek the Lord and His wisdom and see how we can solve this very pressing problem. The Church can no longer ignore this need as the answer lies in Christ and His Word. Please send your ideas to editor@joymag.co.za.
I urge you to allow yourself to be challenged by One Thing You can’t do in Heaven (Pg32). We have limited time on this earth, let’s not waste a second.
And lastly, on behalf of the entire JOY! team, we want to thank you for all your words of encouragement during the year. It has been so wonderful to read your letters and emails and to know that we are touching lives. It gives us all a renewed sense of purpose and we look forward to serving you, our valued readers, during 2009. Happy Holy Christmas, may the Lord bless you as you celebrate Him and His goodness. May the peace of God be with you and your family.
God Bless,
Erin
