Be Alert
“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him and stand firm in the faith…” 1 Peter 5: 7-9a
Readers, I am very concerned with the rate and tenacity with which satan is popping up all over the place, seeking to influence and break down our society. Everywhere we look, we see evidence of him and sadly, unless we stand united as children of the Most High and fight back, we will see our families destroyed.
Recently tennis fans were exposed to Steers’ distasteful and risqué advertising during the Wimbledon finals on TV. Steers and their advertising company showed scant respect for the children of South Africa and for parents enjoying the exciting final. However, I thank God for the caring folks out there who didn’t just sit back. They decided to act and duly wrote to Steers and The Advertising Standards Authority to lodge a complaint. Because of their deeds, a ruling was taken against Steers and they have now had to withdraw their adverts with immediate effect. Hooray, victory to the moral watchdogs! Thanks to everyone who took the time to complain - I think in time we will all have to be more vocal about issues like these.
The devil has many cunning tricks. Read The Marketing of Evil (pg 26)
and be enlightened as to his modus operandi within current culture. Forewarned is forearmed.
As a nation we are consistently facing the consequences of these challenges and are forced to deal with them. So, how should we as Christians react? JOY! investigated the Christian response to sin in terms of a recent traumatic event that occurred at a Cape Town primary school and we present the challenge of Mercy or Judgement (pg 21). Thank the Lord that the Bible, The Greatest Book in the World (pg 32), leads us into all Truth and give us direction and guidance in all these matters.
I encourage you to read the wonderful testimonies of two men involved in a recent kidney transplant. It is a wonderful story entitled, For the Love of My Brother (pg 44). We were really moved by the donor’s motivation and the wonderful outcome of this selfless act of kindness and compassion. Enjoy!
To God be all the glory and honour.
