The Bible says we should ask and we will receive. I keep asking, but don’t seem to receive what I ask for. How many times must we ask before we receive?
Answer:
There are some principles about asking that we need to be aware of.
Firstly, it is important to be sure the request we are making is in the Will of God. We need to keep talking to the Lord about our issues until we have that assurance. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His Will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” 1 John 5:14,15
Secondly, once we are assured that our request is in line with His Word and His Will, we have to believe that we have received. “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.” James 1:6,7
For example: We know it is the Will of God for everyone to receive Christ as their personal Saviour. While some are waiting for God to save them, God is waiting for the unsaved to receive His eternal provision for their sin. Believing is seeing. That’s how faith works. We believe in our heart, confess with our mouth and trust God to do His Work.
