EVANGELISM IN HIS NAME
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners” – Isaiah 61 v 1 (NIV)
A well-known verse with a powerful message. Isaiah 61 speaks of the servants of the Lord, filled with the Holy Spirit, anointed to do the work of God, bringing hope and freedom to the lost and suffering. What is essential to note herein, is the blatant connection between the anointing and the purpose for being anointed. “The Lord has anointed me to...” we read. Emphasis must be placed on this seemingly insignificant “to”. God does not empower His servants for whimsical, selfish or self-centred acts. He empowers them to do His will. He equips them to conquer murderous mind with His love, sorrowful states with His joy, despairing drudgery with His peace. He requires them to bring the truth of who He is to those who know Him not. God empowers for a purpose. This is the bottom-line. Are you filled with the Holy Spirit? Do you have talents and abilities? God has given you all such marvellous gifts to be a shining light in an often despondent world. Let the focus of such not be for your own benefit. Let their purpose be to pour the sweet fragrance of Christ into the lives of all you come across. At our BURGERSFORT Gospel Crusade in September 2013, Oupa Mankge was inspired to do just that. Read his testimony below to find out how.
Yours in His service,
Having stumbled across a promotional flyer, Oupa (47) stopped by our Burgersfort Gospel Crusade on his way to work, desperately in need of a touch of healing from his Saviour. Fully clothed in a security uniform, he testified the next morning at our Fire Conference service. “I came to the crusade last night as I was walking to work. I had pains in my chest and sores on my back that were constantly itching. I came here to ask for prayers. I had almost lost faith in God.” It was at the Fire Conference that He received what he had been trusting Jesus for. “As I stepped inside the tent I was still very uncomfortable. However, soon afterwards, the pain and the itching completely stopped! I fell to the ground and felt a strange feeling. I want to thank God for what He has done. I feel so free, so relieved.” Oupa now has only one burning desire – to tell people about Jesus and see them saved and healed. “I have changed. My life has changed!” he exclaimed.
